Sogni Della Speccia' Shale Peak Vineyard - 2015

The term "Forlorn Hope," derived from the Dutch "verloren hoop" (literally "lost troop"), was given to the group of troops who volunteered to lead the attack straight into enemy lines. Even though the odds of making it through the Forlorn Hope were low, there was never a shortage of people who wanted to try.
In producing these bottles, Matthew Rorick Wines threw themselves headfirst into the fray. These wines, from obscure regions and unusual grape varietals, are the fearless vanguard, the crown jewel, the last, best hope.
Matthew Rorick owes his interest in wine to the time he spent at his grandfather's table, where he witnessed firsthand the grandfather's enthusiasm for sharing a bottle, a meal, and stimulating conversation.
Taking his cues from the rocks and dirt, he makes an effort to intervene as little as possible in the production of his wines so that the individuality of each vineyard can shine through.
