Semillon "Nacré" Napa Valley - 2014

Grown in the heart of Napa Valley, just north of the town of Yountville, the Nacré Sémillon grapes are cultivated by the Hoxsey family. The vines, planted in the 1950s by Andy Hoxsey and his father, thrive in a mix of alluvial loam, river cobble, and volcanic soils. The organically tended, dry-farmed vines yield fruit of exceptional quality. For the 2014 vintage, the grapes were hand-picked and pressed whole cluster, then underwent spontaneous native fermentation in stainless steel tanks. After racking off the lees at the completion of fermentation, the wine was bottled in June 2015 to allow the majority of its aging and development to occur under cork. This extended bottle aging, lasting over six years prior to release, has resulted in a wine of remarkable complexity and finesse. The Nacré Sémillon is crafted in the style of the renowned Sémillons from Australia's Hunter Valley, with the potential to age gracefully for decades. The wine's name, Nacré, meaning mother-of-pearl, is a nod to its affinity for pairing with oysters. Crisp, racy, and focused, the wine unfolds layer upon layer of flavor when decanted, showcasing its depth and elegance.
