The Gutiérrez family has been producing mezcal since 2009, using Cenizo, an agave variety native to the state of Durango. Their core mezcals are distilled by Fabiola Avila at Hacienda Dolores, a historic colonial estate built in the 1600s and meticulously restored over the past 30 years.
Durango boasts a remarkable diversity of agave varietals, second only to Oaxaca. To showcase this richness, Lágrimas has partnered with several vinatas—small-batch distilleries that harvest wild and semi-cultivated agaves from remote regions and distill them with traditional methods.
The result is a mezcal with herbaceous smoke, delicate notes of toasted wood, and a hint of caramel.
