The Gutiérrez family has been producing mezcal since 2009, using Cenizo agave, which is indigenous to the state of Durango. Their core mezcals are distilled by Fabiola Ávila at Hacienda Dolores, a historic colonial estate built in the 1600s and meticulously restored over the past 30 years.
Durango boasts one of the most diverse agave populations, second only to Oaxaca. To showcase this richness, Lágrimas partners with various vinatas—small-batch distilleries that harvest wild and semi-cultivated agaves in remote areas and distill them with traditional methods.
Expect tropical fruit aromas and a mildly sweet palate, opening with notes of pineapple and mango before transitioning to a drier, herbaceous profile. The finish is crisp and refreshing, with hints of mint, shiso, and eucalyptus.
