About Verha Wines

The Verha project was launched in 2022 with the aim of producing younger, ready-to-drink wines that capture the essence of the Vulture terroir. The project holds social significance, as the grapes used to make the wines are sourced from winegrowers in Barile, the same community to which Elena Fucci belongs. Prior to the pandemic period, the local winegrowers would trade their grapes with the larger wineries in the area, producing "garagiste-style" wines. When this trade arrangement faltered, Elena and the winegrowers decided to use the grapes to make Verha wines, in order to support the community and prevent its desertion. The name "Verha" means "wine" in the Arbëreshë language, which is spoken by the Albanian minority residing in Barile since the 15th century.
