About Florian Le Capitaine

Florian Le Capitaine is a young second-generation winemaker in Vouvray. Located in the hamlet of Rochecorbon on the western edge of the appellation, he farms according to strict (certified) organic principles. His family domaine, Domaine Le Capitaine, was founded by Florian’s father, Alain, in 1988, and Florian worked there for six years before starting his own label in 2019. Florian works with a site called “Les Aumônes” in Rochecorbon and has been converting to biodynamic viticulture under the guidance of longtime Huet winemaker Jean-Bernard Berthomé. This vineyard is located in the “Première Côte,” a south-facing stretch of parcels in stony, limestone-rich soils that contains many of the Vouvray AOC’s most prized vineyards. The winemaking process here is straightforward: after a whole-cluster pressing, the fruit is transferred to older barrels to undergo alcoholic and malolactic fermentations. After that, the wine is matured for four to five months on fine lees.
