About D'Orsaria

The alluvial soil of the Colli Orientali Friuli, in the extreme eastern reaches of Italy, has been used by the Orsaria family to produce exquisite wines with the same tenacity and determination as the bears (orso) from whom the family draws its name. The bears have moved on because the forests they used to live in are now being used for grape growing. The Orsarias cultivate both local and international grapes (Cabernet Franc being a particular favorite) on their farm. The cooler half of the greater Friuli wine country, some of which extends into neighboring Slovenia, is located in the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The Colli Orientali, originally a rising seabed, are now good grape locations due to their marl and sandstone deposits and are located further inland.
