About Domaine Delagrange
With vines across the acclaimed communes of Volnay, Pommard, Aloxe Corton, Meursault, and the Haute-Côte de Beaune, Domaine Henri Delagrange et Fils makes stellar, classic Burgundy. The Delagrange family has worked vineyards and crafted wines in Burgundy for six—going on seven—generations. Since 1947, when René Delagrange bottled the Premier Cru "Clos des Chenes," they’ve made their home in Volnay. René’s son Henri Delgrange and his wife Gisele eventually took over and began farming the six hectares spread over the Volnay and Pommard appellations. Yet the domaine really evolved after Gisele and Henri’s son Didier came on board.
In 1990, they planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, doubling the size of their vineyard holdings. When Didier officially took over in 2003, he continued expanding, purchasing small plots in Meursault, Aloxe-Corton, and later the Volnay Premier Cru “Les Champans.” Now, Didier’s son Alexis has joined the team, and the domaine owns a total of 15 hectares. Many of their vines sit near the border between Volnay and Pommard, where they benefit from the drastic geological contrast between the communes. The slopes of Volnay produce delicate, fragrant Pinot, while Pommard’s flatter lands—just a few hundred feet away—deliver power and concentration. To extract those distinct characters, the Delagranges intervene minimally, but monitor fastidiously. They prune, thin, and trellis by hand, and in the cellar, they ferment with indigenous yeasts and use new oak sparingly to deliver complex and well-balanced wines.
