About Agricola Calcarea

The Agrícola Calcárea project was born out of the winemaker - Juan Jurado Gomez desire to return to Andalusia, their home, after more than a decade away. This dream has now become a reality. During their time abroad, Juan had the opportunity to taste some of the world's finest wines and gain experience vinifying in different regions. Learning from great masters outside of Spain provided them with valuable experience and a unique perspective on winemaking. However, the time had come for them to return to their roots.

Juan chose to settle in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, drawn by a combination of environmental factors and personal connections. The region's unique terroir is characterized by the calcareous Albariza soils, which are renowned for their ability to retain moisture and nourish grapevines. The Atlantic climate, with its gentle sea breezes, moderates temperatures and provides essential humidity. The Costa de la Luz's distinctive sunlight bathes the vineyards, contributing to optimal grape ripening. Beyond the environmental advantages, Juan was captivated by the unique character of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The town's distinctive culture, warm-hearted residents, and rich tapestry of customs, traditions, and gastronomy create an intangible allure. These elements combine to form a special atmosphere that resonates deeply with them, making Sanlúcar de Barrameda not just an ideal location for viticulture, but also a place that feels like home.
