Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville

Since 1959, Vine Hill Ranch has farmed the finest Cabernet Sauvignon winegrapes for leading Napa Valley vintners. But the release of the 2008 "VHR"–Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon–was the culmination of the Phillips family's evolution from grapegrowing to winemaking over three generations.

Vine Hill Ranch, under the leadership of the Phillips family, creates hand-crafted wines that reflect the individual traits of each of Vine Hill Ranch's seven vineyard blocks tucked along the wooded hills of the Mayacamas Mountain Range in Oakville. Vineyard manager, Michael Wolf, and winemaker, Francoise Peschon, carefully steward forward a wine that reflects the essence of Vine Hill Ranch.

The fruit from the higher vineyard blocks exude an earthy, forest floor chaparral quality-the sloping grade, gravelly soil and most mature vines produce intense, concentrated and expressive black fruit. Blocks on the lower bench-land, with its deep, loamy soils and younger vines, yield bright fruit flavors and fine tannins full of verve and energy. Blended in unique proportions with each vintage, Vine Hill Ranch is a true wine of place.

"Vine Hill Ranch's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is flat-out epic. Look for the 2016 VHR to be one of the benchmark wines of this great Napa Valley vintage. A year ago, the 2016 was powerful and dramatic. Today, the 2016 is super-polished and regal in bearing. Vertical and deep, with tremendous complexity, the 2016 has so much to offer. A rush of black cherry, plum, menthol, licorice, sage, dark spice and earthy notes build as this statuesque Cabernet Sauvignon shows off its magnificent pedigree. The 2016 is a monumental, towering wine. That's all there is to it."

100 points, Antonio Galloni,

"The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Above all else, I am impressed with how much freshness the 2015 shows. Racy red cherry, plum, rose petal and lavender notes fill out the wine's sumptuous frame. Bottled just a few months ago, the 2015 is a bit reticent, but it is nevertheless impressive. Time in the glass brings out the wine's natural radiance."

96+ points, Antonio Galloni
