Established in 1996, by Claire and Mike Allan, Huia (pronounced "HOO-yah") Vineyards are organic and biodynamically farmed. Not only are the vineyards farmed without chemicals, but they are also home to cows that wander through the vines, amidst wildflowers that grow at the vines' roots. Beginning with this year's 2011 vintage, the wines will be certified organic.
Consisting of three plots, the estate includes the Home block which consists of 9ha of the original plantings, the Shipley block which was planted with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris in 2005, and the Winsome block, which includes 15ha of soils that are deep with rich clay.
Committed to the production of premium and classical Marlborough wines, Huia is focused on hand-crafting fine, unique wines that express the richness of Marlborough grapes from the vineyard through to the table. With Claire and Mike serving double duty as both owners and winemakers, Huia wines are created with a passionate and personal touch.
