Ålander Spiced Rum is distilled in small batches from Florida Demerara sugar and Louisiana Turbinado sugar that is sourced from Mike’s cousin’s cooperative. All spices are purchased whole (no extracts or essential oils) and infused individually by hand: whole bean vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice and cloves. Once these separate infusions are blended, the rum is finished with a maceration of locally roasted espresso beans which lends a surprising depth of flavor.
The name is a nod to the Åland islands, an archipelago between Sweden and Finland, one of the only places in the world that makes rum from sugar beets.
