About
Erste + Neue
The first wine co-operative created in Kaltern, Alto Adige, established in 1900, Erste e Neue now has some 500 growers contributing grapes from approximately 280 hectares of vineyards.
Introducing Erste + Neue
From terraced vineyards that are situated around Lake Kaltern and on the plateau at the foot of the Mendel Mountain, the co-op's members produce premium wines from grapes grown in cru and top quality locations. At Erste e Neue, the co-op vinifies 13 different grape varieties, including local grapes such as Gewurztraminer, Lagrein and Vernatsch, and international favorites that include Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Merlot. They make a wide variety of wines in both white and red with a touch more emphasis on white wines. With Gerhard Sanin as the Cellar Master, the winery combines established wine-making traditions with modern cellar technologies, a beautiful combination of the old and new worlds.
