About
Domaine du Murinais
The Tardy family has been growing grapes in the Beaumont-Monteux sector of Crozes Hermitage for over 150 years. Luc Tardy was the first in his family to make wine from their grapes when he built his winery in 1998. And while he continues to sell the majority of his grapes, he keeps the harvest from the best parcels, which amounts to a total of 14 hectares of Syrah and 1 hectare of white. These prized parcels are located on a plateau of Rhone river pebbles and gravel at an altitude of 120 meters.
Introducing Domaine du Murinais
Luc is a meticulous farmer who employs many organic viticultural techniques to lower yields and minimize pests. No chemicals are used. He performs rigorous de-budding down to just three buds on two shoots per vine as well as green harvesting. Every other row is plowed by hand and the alternate rows grow cover of weeds and herbs to promote root depth and beneficial microbial activity. All harvesting is done by hand into small 20kg trays.
Grapes are partially de-stemmed (60-70%) and given a cold soak at 10 degrees C for 7 days. Vinification takes place in cement tanks with natural yeasts for 21 days with twice daily pump-overs. Press wine is always sold to the bulk market and never makes it into the final blend which is racked into 1- 4 year old barrels for a minimum of 12 months. The wine is bottled unfiltered and unfined.
