Domaine les Cantates

Introducing Domaine les Cantates

Rene Quenard's family has been farming vineyards in Chignin for over 300 years. In the early 20th century, they planted their first vines on the slopes of the "Savoyarde" mountain where the famous Bergeron apricot orchards bloom. The Quenard vineyards were planted to traditional Savoyard varietals: Gamay, Jacquere, Pinot Noir, Mondeuse and the ancient Roussanne which produces the famous Chignin Bergeron. Here, Domaine les Cantates is fortunate to find itself on the finest terroirs, a series of different cones of mountain slide rock and pebble over clay which promotes diversity and distinctive flavor to the assemblage.

Today the Domaine holds a total of 18ha with 11 of those in the Chignin Bergeron AOP. In 2008, the Domaine was purchased by Claire Taittinger, a native of Savoie and the wife of Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger of Champagne. With a goal of keeping tradition in place but with the benefit of some updating and modernizations in the winery, Claire began the process of increasing the quality level of the Domaine's wine. With the 2012 vintage the Domaine rebranded itself with a new name and labels for all their cuvees and are now known as Domaine les Cantates.

The rocky soil and sunshine bring intensity to the wines’ aromas. To be respectful of the environment and the land, the grapes are hand-harvested. Claire takes every precaution to ensure a product of high quality taste and smell, and since 2004 the vines have been certified sustainable
